On Thursday, the 2018 Horizon Fall Baseball League had their Opening Night for the adult division with a great turnout of players and volunteers including the Acworth Achievers. The Horizon League, offered through the Acworth Parks and Recreation Department, gives athletes with special needs the opportunity to play sports and participate in social activities. Utilizing a buddy system for their recreational activities, each participant is paired up with a volunteer to encourage them during the game and form lasting friendships that extend beyond the playing field. The Acworth Achievers look forward to volunteering each and every season!
The Acworth Achievers are constantly finding ways to make themselves better and to get to the next level in life. On Tuesday, the Acworth Achievers and Papa's Pantry partnered to bring in a guest speaker to come in and teach Fireproof Professionalism. The students learned the difference between an amateur and professional, how to present yourself in a professional manner, and even had some role play opportunities. The Achievers had a blast learning from Faith and would like to thank Papa's Pantry for sharpening their professional skills!
Last week, the Acworth Achievers decided to take their talents to the kitchen and created homemade pizza! Each participant had their very own personal pan pizza that they were able to create using any toppings their stomachs desired! By the end of the program, the room was filled with delicious smells, smiles were everywhere and bellies were full!

The Expanding Horizons and Acworth Achievers programs have selected participants for an all expense paid trip to Boston, Massachusetts. The group will be taking a four day trip that will consist of historical tours as well as new and innovative tours of the city. The participants will enjoy tours of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Laboratory and Museum, the Museum of Science, and Plimoth Plantation. They will also have an opportunity to visit Salem and enjoy the Salem Witch Museum. We cannot wait to explore the great city of Boston!
The Acworth Achievers partnered with Mostly Mutts, a local dog shelter, to decorate dog leashes for all of the shelter dogs. The Achievers decorated each white leash using Sharpies and their imagination and made 25 leashes for the volunteers to use to walk the dogs. The students always enjoy giving back but they especially enjoy helping out their furry friends. The Achievers would like to thank Mostly Mutts for giving them the opportunity to make a difference in these dogs lives, and they cannot wait for their next project!
